Mercedes-Benz’s Keyless-Go is a Multi-Talented Wonder

Mercedes-Benz is busy rolling out new models for 2017 this summer, and as always the features are dazzling.  However, we’re mainly interested in what they’ve been up to with their Keyless-Go system, since we work with it every week, assisting our customers.

Most recently, Mercedes-Benz is releasing its luxury vehicles with an array of enticing features like self-leveling air suspension, one that’s now standard issue in many models.  Plus, with new and inventive seating and cargo options, the ride is more comfortable than ever.

But how is the Keyless-Go system these days?

The Best  New Thing About Mercedes-Benz’s Keyless-Go

The most notable new feature of the Keyless-Go is the wonderful fact that it now allows drivers to open the tailgate (if they have a wagon) with the wave of a foot… a foot!  Trigger a sensor under the rear bumper with your foot and voila: the tailgate is rising while you maintain a grip your packages.

The feature is an optional part of Keyless-Go, and it’s called “Hands-Free Access”.  The tailgate itself has a name: “Easy Pack” and the electro-mechanical switch promises to make life easier for drivers who have packages to load.

Keyless-Go with Hands-Free Access isn’t standard issue, so if this feature sounds dreamy to you, make sure to ask for it.  You’ll have the ability to open the hatch with the kick of your foot.

What Other Fun Tricks are Possible With Keyless-Go?

Keyless-Go uses radio frequency identification (RFID) technology, which means drivers can unlock their cars and start the ignition without the use of a regular key.  The push-button ignition can be activated without having to remove the Keyless-Go key fob from your pocket.

It’s called “keyless proximity” technology and it works on the ignition as well as the auto locks.

Did you know that having the Keyless-Go in your pocket means opening your car door is just a matter of … well, opening the door!  Gripping the handle is all it takes- your car knows you have your fob in your pocket.  It’s as if you never locked your car in the first place- all the security with none of the hassle.

You don’t even have to activate your remote control – just have it in your pocket.

What if You Lose the Keyless-Go Fob?

German key technology is the best in the world.  Mercedes actually coined the phrase “SmartKey”!  They use rolling security codes to deter hackers and thieves. The constantly changing random codes prevent hacking tools called “code grabbers” from stealing codes.  When you have the wrong code, the car’s computer system fails to recognize it and fails to unlock or start.

While it’s difficult to replace lost Mercedes keys, it’s not altogether impossible.  A specialist auto locksmith will be able to get you into your car and on the road again if you’ve lost your SmartKey or fob.

Most Mercedes owners don’t know this, but when the fob isn’t working, the push-button ignition can indeed be activated by a regular key.  The push button simply pops off to reveal a traditional-looking key ignition slot.  Using the manual key will get you driving again, with the twist of the old key.

You’ll still need to apply the brake before the car will actually start, however. And, if your fob isn’t working but you need to raise or lower the windows, there’s a way to do that, too, without a functioning fob.  Just use the traditional key from the outside of the car, so no button-pushing is necessary.

Mercedes Key Replacement and Programming is Possible

If your Mercedes key has stopped working, or if you’ve lost your Mercedes key, it can be programmed by a knowledgeable and trained auto locksmith.  Contrary to what you may hear or read online, you do not have to go to the Mercedes-Benz dealer.

Often times the problem is the control module that operates the Keyless-Go functions.  It can get corrupted for whatever reason, which means you’ll need a technician to take a look at it.

Finally, the new Keyless-Go represents new convenience for access and authorisation, but we’re still there to help you out with our trained auto locksmiths who are up-to-date on all the latest technology.

We can program your fob for far less money than your Mercedes dealer, and we’re available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  We can be at your side quickly – in as little as 30 minutes in some cases.  Our 24 hour automotive locksmith service operates for your convenience, your budget, and your service.
