A keychain, or keyring, is a chain, usually made of metal or plastic, that connects a small item to a keyring. The keychain length allows the item to be used more quickly than if it were directly attached to the keyring. Some keychains allow one or both ends of the ability to rotate. This keeps the keychain from twisting while the item is being used. A keychain can also be a link between a keyring and an individual’s belt. The chain can also be retractable. The chain ensures that the keys stay attached to the person using them, decreases the risk of accidental loss, and protects the user’s pockets from wear and tear.
